Road & Track magazine illustrations project - Vol.22 Mercedes-Benz gullwing 1955
Client: Hearst Road & Track
Commissioned by Hearst, I created a series of illustrations for Road & Track magazine’s April/May 2024 issue. These pieces feature the retro classic 1955 Mercedes-Benz Gullwing 300SL. The project allowed me to visually narrate the author’s exciting adventure during the 2013 Mille Miglia Storica. This historic race is a modern reenactment of the legendary Italian endurance event.
My artwork follows the author’s journey, now on its third day, starting from Brescia and passing through Italy’s iconic cities. Behind the wheel of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz Gullwing 300SL, the author embodies the spirit of motorsport’s golden age. They bring the past to life within the thrilling setting of a contemporary race.
Through my illustrations, I aimed to capture the nostalgia and allure of 1955. My goal was to evoke the romance and excitement of that unforgettable era. I hope the vibrant reds of the iconic Gullwing leap off the page and draw you into its story.
