Shetland Reel holds the distinction of being the northernmost gin distillery in the UK. In 2017, I was honored to be commissioned by 442 Designs to create special edition gin packaging illustrations to celebrate Shetland’s largest fire festival, Up Helly Aa. This festival, renowned for its vibrant Viking heritage, provided the perfect inspiration for my artwork.
I was delighted to learn that my Viking-themed illustrations resonated deeply, becoming iconic and cherished by both the Shetland Reel team and their customers. This positive reception naturally paved the way for me to collaborate with them again when they embarked on launching their first whisky brand in 2019.
For this blended whisky label illustrations project, I created a new series of intricate Up Helly Aa-inspired Viking ink illustrations to adorn their whisky label. It remains one of my proudest achievements, showcasing a cherished partnership with a client whose vision aligns seamlessly with my creative passion.
